YCDC finishes high-rise review

Myanmar real estate news Yangon City Development Committee announced yesterday it has completed its review of high-rise building projects and will start accepting new applications for construction permits next week.

The Yangon Regional government and YCDC began a city-wide review of high-rise buildings in May, which covered projects already under construction, those that had begun foundation work and those still in the planning stage.

YCDC has now finished reviewing the final group of buildings – those had received a permit in principle under the previous YCDC administration but where still in the planning stage.

In addition to finishing of it’s reivew, the committee’s Department of Engineering (Building) will also restart accepting applications for new construction projects, having stopped considering new permits back in July.

Developers will be able to submit new applications from next week, said U Than Htay, director of the Engineering Department (Building).

YCDC said it will use existing laws and by-laws when considering whether or not to grant new construction permit applications.

There was uncertainty during the earlier stages of the high-rise review as to whether a draft zoning law, expected to be finished this year, was used to assess under-construction projects.
